Design Sections 3, 4 and 5
Millbury, Sutton, Grafton, Northbridge, and Uxbridge

The proposed Blackstone River Bikeway (BRBW) is envisioned to become a world class multiuse pathway that will connect some of the most outstanding historical, cultural and natural resources in New England. When completed the bikeway will link New England’s second and third largest cities i.e. Worcester and Providence, RI, creating a linear park and an alternate transportation route over 48 miles in length.

Parsons and its Project Team will be completing a Single Environmental Impact Report (EIR) for the entire bikeway corridor in Massachusetts and preparing Final Design plans for Sections 3, 4 and 5 in Millbury, Sutton, Grafton, Northbridge and Uxbridge under a contract with MassDOT. The goal of the Single EIR is to address the environmental impacts of a preferred alignment extending from Worcester, MA to Blackstone, MA.

Our Team’s design objectives for the BRBW in Massachusetts will be to create a continuous, safe and constructible multiuse pathway that will provide an alternate non-vehicular access through the Blackstone River Valley connecting areas recognized for their national, regional, as well as local, significance.

  Design Section 2
Millville, Uxbridge

A recent revision to Section 2 includes the addition of approximately 0.8 miles from Section 1 (south of Central Street and up to the historic Triad Bridge in Millville). This addition was requested by the Town of Millville. As a result, the proposed project now consists of approximately 4.61 miles of a new 10 foot wide paved bikeway including two new bicycle bridges. The project begins at Central Street in the Town of Millville, continuing along the alignment of the SNETT and then crosses into the Town of Uxbridge ending at Route 122. Most of the alignment follows the Blackstone River and is new off-road alignment, but two segments will share existing street pavement with motorists along Balm of Life Spring Road and River Road in Uxbridge.

A Design Public Hearing was held by MassHighway in collaboration with DCR and the National Heritage Corridor Commission on January 28, 2008.
